Eduardo Barreto

Director/Writer
Eduardo Barreto is a Director and Writer, whose work spans across Theatre, Opera, Film, and Television, with a focus on bold, emotionally driven storytelling.
His credits span Opera, including RUTH and The Dark Lady of the Sonnets with Pegasus Opera Company, and an extensive body of theatre work. He has directed classics such as A Doll’s House (Henrik Ibsen), Dangerous Liaisons (Christopher Hampton), Suddenly Last Summer (Tennessee Williams), The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant (R.W. Fassbinder), and The Human Voice (Jean Cocteau).
Alongside contemporary plays including Cleansed (Sarah Kane), Danny and the Deep Blue Sea (John Patrick Shanley), Nerve (Adam Szymkowicz), and Rope (Patrick Hamilton). His work also champions new writing, with productions such as All for Nothing (Jorge Guimarães), Peep Show (Luís Assis), Never Nothing from No One (Luísa Costa Gomes), L.A Baby (Ambrosine Davies), Redhead (Alison Rayner), Marching (L.A Green), The Undying (Rea Dennhardt), and Kara, Mickey and Pol Too (Sabrina Westrup & Tara Ellis), as well as his own play No Time to Grow, which he wrote and directed.
In film, his short Pastry (written by Alison Rayner) was selected for 40 international festivals. He is currently in post-production on his debut feature Rites of Spring, which he wrote and directed, and has also co-written for television (The Crime of Father Amaro).
Eduardo holds an MA in Theatre Directing from Royal Holloway, University of London, and two MAs in Screenwriting from the University of the Arts London (First Class Honours) and the London Film School. A member of the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain, they also mentor film and theatre students at Central Saint Martins.
